    Machine Borer - London

    Machine Borer / Horizontal Borer

    Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time
    Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
    Overtime: Available, including some weekend overtime

    Guided Talent is recruiting an experienced Machine Borer / Horizontal Borer on behalf of our client, an established engineering organisation manufacturing high-precision components for the aerospace sector.

    This is a hands-on machining role suited to an experienced Machine Borer, Horizontal Borer, Manual Machinist or Precision Machinist with a strong engineering background and the ability to work accurately to fine tolerances.

    The successful candidate will operate boring machinery to manufacture precision aircraft components, working from detailed technical drawings and taking responsibility for producing work to the required quality and dimensional standards.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Operate a range of boring machines to fine tolerances
    • Manufacture precision engineered components in accordance with technical specifications
    • Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
    • Apply knowledge of horizontal boring techniques and machining practices
    • Measure components accurately, including working with imperial measurements
    • Set up and operate machinery safely and effectively
    • Monitor machining processes and maintain consistent quality standards
    • Take ownership of work and identify solutions to machining issues
    • Carry out work in accordance with established quality, safety and environmental procedures
    • Maintain accurate production and training records where required
    • Support the training of other personnel where appropriate to experience and qualifications
    • Maintain a clean, organised working environment in line with 5S principles

    Skills & Experience

    To be considered for this position, candidates should have:

    • A strong machining background
    • Practical experience working within a machine shop or precision engineering environment
    • Ability to read and understand technical engineering drawings
    • Knowledge of machining processes and workshop practices
    • Good measurement and inspection skills, including the ability to work in imperial measurements
    • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work to fine tolerances
    • Good problem-solving skills and the confidence to work on your own initiative
    • Ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining quality standards
    • Good communication and team-working skills
    • Basic IT literacy

    Desirable Experience

    The following would be advantageous but is not essential:

    • Previous experience operating horizontal boring machines
    • Aerospace or aircraft component manufacturing experience
    • Knowledge of CNC machining
    • Formal training in machine shop technology or machining practices

    Working Environment

    This is a practical, workshop-based position involving:

    • Operation of complex machining equipment
    • Use of hand and power tools
    • Handling engineering components
    • Exposure to oils and greases associated with machining
    • Manual handling and lifting of components
    • Standing for extended periods with appropriate breaks
    • Training in the use of overhead cranes where required

    Flexible working may occasionally be required, including overtime and some weekend work.

    Candidate Requirements

    Candidates must have the unrestricted right to live and work in the UK.

    Mandatory training relevant to the position will also be required.
