Control Panel Builder

Guided Talent is recruiting an experienced Control Panel Builder on behalf of our client, a specialist engineering manufacturer producing bespoke industrial machinery and automated equipment.
This is a hands-on, workshop-based opportunity for an experienced Electrical Panel Wirer, Control Panel Technician, Panel Builder or Electrical Assembly Technician who takes pride in producing high-quality electrical control panels.
The role involves building and wiring a wide variety of bespoke control panels, from smaller junction boxes and HMI enclosures through to MCCs and larger multi-door cabinets. As production is predominantly bespoke and small-batch, the position requires excellent attention to detail, strong electrical knowledge and a high standard of workmanship.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and wire low-voltage electrical control panels for industrial machinery
- Work with single-phase, three-phase, AC and 24V DC control systems
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, EPLAN drawings, mechanical layouts and bills of materials
- Install and terminate electrical components including:
- Circuit protection devices
- Relays and contactors
- Solenoid valves
- Inverter drives and soft starters
- PLC systems
- HMIs
- Build a variety of electrical assemblies including junction boxes, HMI enclosures, MCC panels and multi-door control cabinets
- Select and route electrical wiring accurately
- Carry out professional crimping, ferrule termination and cable routing
- Measure, mark out and fabricate panel components using workshop tools
- Work with materials including stainless steel, GRP and mild or galvanised steel
- Complete continuity testing and basic functional checks
- Work closely with electrical design and test engineers
- Maintain high standards of safety, organisation and workmanship within the workshop
Skills & Experience
To be considered for this position, candidates should have:
- At least 4 years' experience in electrical control panel building or panel wiring
- Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical layout drawings
- Excellent practical skills in wire selection, crimping, ferruling, termination and cable routing
- Experience working with both AC and DC electrical control systems
- Good knowledge of electrical control components such as contactors, relays, drives and circuit protection
- Confidence using hand and power tools within an electrical workshop environment
- Excellent attention to detail and a consistently high standard of workmanship
- Ability to work independently as well as part of an engineering team
Desirable Experience
The following would be advantageous:
- Formal electrical qualifications
- Completed electrical or engineering apprenticeship
- Experience working from EPLAN schematics
- Experience interpreting detailed BOMs
- Exposure to PLC and HMI systems, including Siemens, Mitsubishi or Allen Bradley
- Experience within industrial automation, machinery manufacturing or OEM environments
- Knowledge of electrical testing procedures and control panel safety checks

Working Hours & Overtime
The position is contracted at 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with an early finish on Fridays.
Regular overtime may be available and qualifying weekday and Saturday morning overtime is paid at 1.5x the standard hourly rate.
