Sales Engineer – Scientific & Laboratory Equipment

Are you a technically minded sales professional with experience selling scientific, laboratory or engineering products?
Our client is a specialist technical business supplying high-quality scientific and laboratory equipment to customers across the UK and international markets. As the business continues to grow, they are looking for a Sales Engineer to develop existing accounts, generate new business and provide customers with technically informed solutions.
This is a varied, commercially focused position combining technical sales, account management and business development. It would suit someone who enjoys understanding complex customer requirements, discussing technical applications and turning opportunities into long-term commercial relationships.
You will work with customers, distributors and internal technical teams, managing opportunities from the initial enquiry through to quotation, negotiation and order.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage technical sales enquiries from customers and distributors, gaining a clear understanding of their applications and requirements.
- Recommend suitable scientific and laboratory equipment based on customer needs.
- Prepare quotations and progress opportunities from initial enquiry through to order placement.
- Develop strong, long-term relationships with existing customers and key accounts.
- Identify and secure new business opportunities across target industries and markets.
- Proactively follow up quotations, enquiries and leads to maximise conversion.
- Support and develop relationships with international distributors.
- Identify opportunities for account growth, cross-selling and additional product sales.
- Deliver product demonstrations, technical presentations and sales training where required.
- Build relationships with technical, engineering, scientific and commercial decision-makers.
- Maintain an accurate sales pipeline and customer information within the CRM system.
- Provide sales forecasts, pipeline updates and market feedback to management.
- Work closely with technical and operational colleagues to ensure customer requirements are understood and delivered effectively.
- Develop detailed knowledge of the company's products, applications and target markets.
- Represent the business at customer meetings, exhibitions, trade shows and industry events.
- Keep up to date with developments across the scientific, laboratory, engineering and instrumentation markets.
About You
Our client is looking for someone who can combine technical credibility with strong commercial instincts.
You should have:
- A degree or equivalent higher-level qualification in Science, Engineering or another relevant technical discipline.
- At least 2 years' experience in technical sales, ideally within scientific equipment, laboratory equipment, instrumentation, engineering products or a related technical market.
- The ability to understand technical products and explain their benefits clearly to customers.
- Experience managing sales opportunities from enquiry through to close.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Confidence speaking with technical and commercial stakeholders.
- A proactive approach to developing new business and growing existing accounts.
- Good organisation skills and the ability to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously.
- Experience using CRM systems and maintaining an effective sales pipeline.
- A commercially focused, self-motivated approach to sales.
Experience working with distributors or international customers would be particularly advantageous.
A full UK driving licence and the flexibility to travel to customer sites, exhibitions and occasional international meetings will also be required.
